Americans are wonderful people
but, unfortunately, they have a problem similar to our own. They
have carelessly allowed politicians to assume the right to do
anything, however unlawful or immoral, as far as foreign policy
is concerned. Democracy has effectively disappeared from this
area of government, even though it has enormous consequences for
ordinary people. The US State Department is a dangerous monster
out of control.
It is time for ordinary citizens
to demand basic human decency in the conduct of foreign policy.
It is time that Britain developed a critical attitude to the
foreign policy of America and began to disengage itself from it.
American actions around the world
show that it has embarked on a programme of imperial expansion
characterised by a rapacious greed, extreme economic and
physical violence, an attempt to ensure that American banking
and big business “take over the world” - including space, the
exploitation and abuse of people, hostility to the well-being of
people, subversion, corruption, the support of major crime
organisations, the deliberate creation of enemies, espionage,
the encouragement of terrorist movements, the use of information
warfare, economic warfare, a paranoid dependence on unbelievable
quantities of weapons, a vast export business in the means to
kill tens of thousands of people, subversion of the United
Nations, rule by an elite which bypasses democracy, and a
criminal indifference to international law and basic human
morality and decency. America is the greatest threat to world
peace that the world has ever known. (40)
So far, the United States has got
away with its disgraceful policies. This cannot continue because
the people of the world will simply retaliate by rejecting
American products and businesses. They will refuse to buy
Coca-Cola, eat at McDonald’s, buy Esso petrol, watch Hollywood’s
films celebrating the most violent society on earth. Sadly,
Americans will be welcome visitors in fewer and fewer countries.
Anti-Americanism is strongly
apparent in much of the world already, for example, in Russia,
China, South America, Iraq, Iran, and Greece. Americans seem
determined to antagonise the whole world.
Of course, we would love to
cooperate with the US on any project that had the betterment of
mankind as its objective.
